PHIL NATIVIDAD

Phil Natividad is a Level 3 NCCP Certified Coach and Learning Facilitator with more than two decades of experience in amateur boxing. A lifelong fan of the sport, Phil’s involvement began in earnest when he volunteered at the 1999 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg. Shortly afterward, he joined Orioles Boxing Club in Winnipeg’s West End—a local boxing powerhouse operating out of a community club basement that produced provincial and national champions. It was there that his coaching aspirations grew and his mentorship journey began.

After a three-year hiatus teaching English in Japan, Phil returned in 2006 to help run Orioles Boxing Club and became heavily involved in coaching. While working toward his certifications, he also travelled frequently to competitions across Canada and the United States, including the Ringside World Championships (Kansas City, MO, USA), the Canadian Golden Gloves (Cornwall, ON), the Canada Winter Games (Halifax, NS), the Battle of the Prairies (Regina, SK), the Calgary Cup (Calgary, AB), and the Brampton Cup (Brampton, ON).

Phil joined United Boxing Club in 2013. As a coach, he tries to adapt his approach to each athlete’s individual tendencies, style, and capabilities, while maintaining a strong belief in the importance of fundamentals. What brings him the greatest joy is helping UBC athletes grow and evolve into the best versions of themselves—both as boxers and as people.

CHRIS PANTING

Christopher has always been sensitive. As a young person, he cried regularly and was frightened of everything from cheddar cheese to pinecones. It was his tough-as-oak mum that first guided him towards combat-based athletics to gain confidence. Many years and disciplines later, Christopher followed some bigger, stronger individuals into United Boxing Club, and he has been here ever since. He enjoys the comradery, personalization, and physicality of the sport. You can find Christopher overseeing sparring on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 12:30 p.m.
