OUR CLUB

United Boxing Club is a not-for-profit boxing gym in the heart of Osborne Village, dedicated to teaching the art of boxing to everyone.

We use boxing to build athletes, confidence, and community. Whether you're brand new or training to compete, we have programs for every level and goal.

United Boxing Club runs on a “pay it forward” approach. Members support each other, and the club supports Winnipeg. Over the years, we’ve raised thousands for local charities and partnered with businesses across the city to share the benefits of boxing.

United Boxing Club was founded in 2006 by Ryan Savage, a seven-time national team boxer with more than 160 bouts, including over 40 international matches. Ryan competed at the World Championships, Francophone Games, and Commonwealth Games, and joined the 2008 Olympic Team in Beijing as a coach and sparring partner. He is the past President of Boxing Canada.

A three-time Canadian National Boxing Champion, Ryan competed as a member of the Canadian Elite National Boxing Team for more than seven years. Over his career, he fought in more than 160 bouts around the world, earning a silver medal at the Olympic Qualifiers and representing Canada at the World Boxing Championships, Commonwealth Games, and the Francophone Games, where he captured a bronze medal.

After retiring from competition, Ryan dedicated nearly two decades to advancing the sport through his leadership with Boxing Canada, serving as Vice President, President, and now Past President and General Counsel. Ryan has also coached at all levels of the sport, including at the 2008 Olympic Games.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport of Olympic boxing, Ryan was inducted into the Boxing Canada Hall of Fame, in November of 2025.

PHIL NATIVIDAD, BOARD MEMBER, COMPETITIVE TEAM MANAGER & COACH

Phil Natividad is a Level 3 NCCP Certified Coach and Learning Facilitator with more than two decades of experience in amateur boxing. A lifelong fan of the sport, Phil’s involvement began in earnest when he volunteered at the 1999 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg. Shortly afterward, he joined Orioles Boxing Club in Winnipeg’s West End: a local boxing juggernaut run out of a community-club basement that produced provincial and national champions, including United Boxing Club’s own President, Ryan Savage.

After spending three years in Japan in the early 2000s working as an English teacher, Phil returned home to help run Orioles Boxing Club. From 2006 onward, he became deeply immersed in coaching, travelling frequently to competitions in Canada and the United States. He also took on event organization, including club shows and Manitoba Golden Gloves competitions in the mid-2000s.

Phil joined United Boxing Club in 2013 and co-founded the inaugural Melee Gala (Melee at the Met), now one of Manitoba’s premier amateur boxing events and the club’s signature annual fundraiser. Phil is a longtime member of United Boxing Club’s board and has served as Treasurer, Technical Director, and President of Boxing Manitoba.

Outside the ring, Phil is an active ukulele performer and teacher, as well as a photographer and graphic designer. His creative work contributes to many of the promotional materials for United Boxing Club events.

Gillian Reid-McLean: Gillian has been part of United Boxing Club since 2011, when her son Chase first stepped into the ring when he was 10 years old.

GILLIAN REID-MCLEAN, BOARD MEMBER & OPERATIONS MANAGER

Gillian has been part of United Boxing Club since 2011, when her son Chase first stepped into the ring when he was 10 years old. The coaches and members welcomed the quiet young athlete and played a key role in helping him grow into the person he is today.

In 2014, Gillian tried her first class, joining the newly launched Female Fighter program. She spent much of that first session lying ringside gasping for breath, but it sparked a lasting passion for both the sport and the club that had already meant so much to her family.

That same year, Gillian joined United’s board; by 2016, she was teaching her first class; then in 2019, she stepped into the role of Operations Manager.

Today, Gillian serves as an instructor, board member, and Operations Manager at United Boxing Club. She is also a Level 4 Referee/Judge Official with Boxing Canada: a designation she earned in 2023 after officiating at events in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC.

Brandt was a co-founder and head coach of Rock Steady Boxing Winnipeg, a non-contact boxing program designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. The program helped participants improve strength, mobility, and confidence, while fostering a powerful sense of community and purpose in the fight against Parkinson’s.

Today, Brandt is a founding partner of a private wealth management firm, where he works as a Financial Planner and Portfolio Manager. Outside of work, Brandt can often be found trying to lower his handicap at Niakwa Country Club. Another long-standing passion is house music—he regularly DJs at electronic music venues and private events around the city, bringing the same discipline and energy to music that he’s applied throughout his boxing career.
